Take 5 with Brittany Hockley

Capturing the hearts of Australians on The Bachelor, Brittany Hockley has remained in the public eye and on our airwaves with radio hosting at the hit podcast Life Uncut. Ms Hockley and co-host and other Bach’ alumna Laura Byrne bring Life Uncut Live to Canberra Theatre Centre on Monday 30 October. CW caught up with Ms Hockley ahead of the show to discuss life, expectations, and the future.

1.    What can audiences expect from the show?

The show is truly a night to remember. It’s the perfect mix between hilarity, vulnerability, and interviews with incredible people. It opens with the incredible Sam Fischer performing – then Laura and I will be sharing some untold moments, having a laugh and speaking with a number of guests including Rebel Wilson, Ellidy Pullen and Em Carey (aka the girl who fell from the sky) just to name a few.

Each show will have different guests but all of them will be just as much fun as the others, it will be a fun night out with friends!

2.    What inspired you and Laura to launch a podcast?

Laura and I met a little over four years ago and bonded over similar experiences (The Bachelor Australia – although hers ended a little better than mine did) but we also had a lot in common and spoke a lot about our past crazy relationships and ‘situationships’.

After The Bachelor, I found my DMs full of people asking for relationship advice, help and just other people going through a hard time. I always tried to respond to each person, but eventually, it just got too much and it became an impossible task. So, I thought, ‘How can I reach and help as many people as possible?’ then the Life Uncut podcast was born!

3.    Do you have a favourite story that has been submitted to the show? Have any been too wild to be shared?

Oh my gosh, every week we have a hilarious story sent in! We’ve literally had thousands – it would be impossible to pick one. We have them from both guests and listeners and it honestly never gets old.

There are definitely stories we laugh about amongst ourselves but are far too wild to say on the podcast – maybe they will make the live show though.

4.    From radiography to reality shows and podcasts, is this the road you thought life would take you?

It really is a completely different career now, but it honestly doesn’t surprise me. I did emergency and theatre radiology for 13 years and loved it. I love science, I love the body, and I like trauma and working under pressure to help people.

Having said that, I always loved entertainment and studied acting throughout my 20s at different schools here in Australia and overseas. I never felt like I wanted to ‘stay in my lane’ because I don’t believe we need to have a lane. It felt like a natural transition into podcasts, TV and radio, and at the end of the day, I just like to make people laugh and feel something.

5.    What’s next for you?

I hope I continue growing and learning in the world of entertainment. I just love it so much and feel so at home. I’ve been in podcasting and radio for a few years now and I hope to be in that space a long time, but I’d also love to try to re-focus some of my energy on acting and presenting.

I’ve co-written/developed a TV series and shot the pilot for it, and I have a few other pieces in the works. I would love to keep working on having those picked up!
