Take 5 with Mark Gable of the Choirboys

Giving us an Aussie anthem about misspent youth, the choirboys are a staple of the pub music scene and leading man Mark Gable wouldnโ€™t have it any other way. Part story, part song and an exciting spilling of beans on some of Aussie Rockโ€™s wildest stories, the new show Choirboys: Run To Paradise comes to The Q- Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 25 May. CD caught up with Mark Gable ahead of the Queanbeyan stop to discuss hometowns, history and tunes.

What can audiences expect from Run To Paradise?

Audiences will go back in time and backstage to where all the fun stuff happened in Australian Rock ‘N Roll: the lunacy, the dirt, the egos and meet the real performers as we did over the last 45 years.

When did you know you wanted to be a performer?

As soon as I saw the Beatles, I wanted to be Paul McCartney.

Do you have any career highlights?

Seeing Run To Paradise become part of Australian History, getting beaten up by Mental As Anythingโ€™s roadie and playing soccer with Deep Purple!

Will you be popping into Captains Flat while you’re in the region?

I hope so, every time I am down this way I drop in and send my drone up to take photos of my hometown. I love the place for 2 reasons: I was born there and it is not Sydney.

Do you have a favourite song to perform?

At the Queanbeyan show it will be the one and only Struggle Town.

Whatโ€™s next for you?

Doing a new Choirboys album
