Taylor man arrested after phone scam

A 23-year-old Taylor man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a mobile phone delivery scam worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.   

In February 2023, ACT Policing was advised about a criminal enterprise where people had attempted to fraudulently obtain mobile phones.   

While delivery of more than $4.5 million worth of phones was stopped, some (worth more than $850,000) were delivered, activated, and subsequently sold offshore.  

Yesterday 1 June, ACT Policing investigators, with the assistance of Telstra and Australia Post, executed multiple search warrants within the ACT. 23 phones and a considerable amount of paperwork were seized. 

The 23-year-old man was arrested and will face court today 2 June, on 23 counts of obtaining property by deception.   

Police are actively seeking other people involved in this matter, investigations are continuing, and further charges are likely to be laid.
