Improving connectivity for the Rural Fire Service during natural disasters, Telstra has partnered with oobe in donating and installing Telstra GO units for the Michelago and Guises Creek Fire Brigade.
The units will allow the rural brigades to remain connected and continue to communicate during natural disasters and blackspots, providing a positive difference by increasing safety through communication.
Telstra GO units are cellular repeaters that amplify signals through connection to an antenna. This device can amplify signals up to 70dB and it repeats the signal between locations, allowing for easier communication.
Michelago RFS Captain Brent Wallis said the technology will make a significant difference in the remote areas of the Monaro, where the brigade regularly responds.
According to Captain Wallace, there are often mobile blackspots in these remote areas, making communications via mobile phones problematic.
“It’s great knowing that there’s community-minded organisations out there like Telstra and oobe whose own employees live rurally and appreciate the need to stay connected and help further our mission of protecting people, property and the environment,” Captain Wallace said.
