Experience the Haig Park Bubble
The City Renewal Authority’s (CRA) new inflatable, inhabitable pavilion has materialised in the middle of one of the city centre’s key green spaces, as part of the Haig Park Experiments.
Bubble has been designed by immersive art creators Goldberg Aberline Studios as a movable, multi-purpose art installation and events space for park users to gather and share in an exciting program of performances, workshops and activities.
CRA chief executive Malcolm Snow said Bubble was one of many events, installations and improvements being trialled in Haig Park as part of the Authority’s efforts to revitalise this key green space.
“Following on from the success of recent events such as Festival of the Forest, the monthly Paw Parties and painting with light workshops, it’s clear that the ability to hold different events and activities in Haig Park is important to the Canberra community,” Mr Snow said.
Haig Park Experiments infrastructure manager Richmond Henty praised the unique and immersive design of the Bubble and its striking appearance nestled amongst the trees.
“Bubble is truly magical and will encourage attendees to see the park in a new light,” Mr Henty said.
The Bubble program will include local community activities as well as events programmed by Haig Park Experiments.
The diverse program includes events such as a film screening, poetry slam, school holiday activities, musical performances, bush tucker workshops and more.
Bubble events are being held on Fridays to Sundays until 7 December; HaigParkCBR.com.au
Windows to the World returns
The ACT Government is giving Canberrans the chance to see the world without taking a long-haul flight at the Windows to the World event this month.
The popular event is a rare opportunity to see behind the gates of the Canberra’s embassies and high commissions.
ACT Minister for Cultural Events, Gordon Ramsay, said the popular event provided an insight into world cultures and celebrated Canberra’s success as a multicultural city.
“I encourage Canberrans to see, taste and experience cultures from across the globe while enjoying the beautiful gardens and architecture that the embassies and high commissions have to offer,” the Minister said.
Joining the 42 diplomatic missions participating in the event are Australia’s own Government House and Australian Parliament House.
Highlights include Crazy Finnish Games, a Filipino barbecue cook up, traditional Timorese food sampling, the chance to sample 27 different styles of Saudi Arabian dates, trying your hand at lacrosse and hockey (Canada), and behind-the-scenes tours at Parliament House.
Windows to the World Expo, a taster event to be held at Floriade on Saturday 5 October, will feature 11 foreign missions, complementing Floriade’s World in Bloom theme.
Windows to the World will run 12-13 and 19-20 October at various foreign missions and Australian Government buildings across Canberra; windowstotheworld.com.au
