It’s hardly controversial to say Gypsy is one of the greatest musicals ever written. You can count on one hand the number of shows that so seamlessly meld song and dialogue with such confidence and panache to tell a story so deeply human.
With Australian musical theatre royalty Geraldine Turner being cast as Rose in The Q’s upcoming 2019 production, it’ll be a case of an extraordinary musical being blessed by an extraordinary performer.
Based very loosely on stripper Gypsy Rose Lee’s memoirs, it sees a pushy stage mother, Rose, go to extreme lengths to make stars of her two daughters, June and Louise, on the vaudeville circuit in the 1920s.
After being cast five times as Rose in productions of Gypsy that never made it to opening night, Turner is excited for the chance to finally take this iconic diva role to the stage in April and May 2019.

Sounds of Canberra
YouTube Music has released a playlist dedicated to Canberra as part of Neighbourhood Sounds – a collection of 13 unique playlists showcasing the vast music that makes up modern-day Australia and its regions.
Our local playlist, dubbed Sounds of Canberra, has been curated by Canberra born and raised, LA-based dancer Alex Carson, who handpicked local artists that represent home to her.
The intention behind the new playlists is to encourage consumers to discover old and new local artists, with each one set to feature more than two hours of sounds.
Local school a Wakakiri winner
Torrens Primary School has won a top national award in Australia’s biggest performing arts challenge for schools, Wakakiri.
The Woden school took out the National Social Media & News Category Award at this year’s Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge with their performance, Seeking Freedom.
Torrens Primary students were inspired by the plight of asylum seekers seeking refuge in Australia to create their performance.
Wakakirri’s National Panel described the performance as “a deeply moving and topical example of sensitive, well researched and devised storytelling”.
