The best and freshest produce for the festive season at the Farmers Market

In these uncertain times, one thing IS certain – December sure does deliver when it comes to really delicious, fun and festive food.

What a joyous time to be catching up with friends and family over nibbles and drinks, creating some seriously artistic summer fruit platters, planning out the Christmas Day menu – and, after the year we’ve all had, enjoying life’s guilty pleasures should be guilt-free for everyone this year.

For the best and freshest seasons eatings, head to the Capital Region Farmers Market.

Open every Saturday in the lead up to Christmas, the Market is a great way to support our region’s farmers, growers and producers, and buy the best and freshest produce on offer.

Market stallholders have been prepping all through the week to bring customers of the Canberra region fresh Christmas hams, seafood, bakery favourites and sweet treats for the season. And of course, there’s super sweet and juicy summer fruits and crisp local-grown vegies. Bring on the summer salads!

Mouth-watering seafood including fish, prawns and calamari is coming in fresh from Narooma Seafood Direct on the NSW South Coast, and traditional smoked hams are ready from Murray River Smokehouse – for something a little different, try their smoked venison. Wagga Free Range Pork have come up with a really tasty cherry and pomegranate pork sausage too.

Lovers of all things sweet will be in heaven at the Market in the coming weeks – there are so many yummy baked goods on offer, perfect for gifting or to enjoy by yourself. Jasper + Myrtle have created chocolate Santas, you’ll find wonderfully fruity fruit mince tarts from Three Mills Bakery (did you know they soak their fruit for an entire year?!), there’s Christmas puddings from Rosa’s Handmade, and chocolate cranberry or marzipan stollen and gingerbread cake from Origin Bake. Luckily the calories just don’t count at Christmas.

We have flavour-packed cherries and stone fruits, all the summer vegetables and even your pup gets a Christmas treat at Market with Christmas crackers for dogs from Teachers Pet and Farmhouse Pet Treats.

Capital Region Farmers Market is open on Saturdays in the lead up to Christmas – Saturday 4, 11 and 18 December, from 7am to 11.30am.
