Dear Editor
Re: “Common sense dumped in West Belconnen” (CW 17 June 2021, p8).
As a resident of West Belconnen, I agree whole heartedly with Gary Humphries regarding the green waste facility closure. The green waste bins are totally inadequate. We fill ours twice with just the grass clippings, never mind the plant cuttings or the leaves from the Plane Trees that are on our nature strip courtesy of the local planning authority. So far this winter we have taken three large trailer loads of leaves to the green waste facility and there are more to come. I wrote to the ACT government, the Greens and the Liberal opposition in regard to the green waste facility; the only one that had the decency to respond was the office of Peter Cain MLA and they were very helpful.
In regard to Gary’s other comment that “it has been said that some of the issues pursued by grassroots Canberra lobbyists in the past have been nothing less than self-interest dressed up as public interest”. Is this not the case with most lobbyists nationwide or even worldwide? They do not need to have worked in the public service. BLM, ANTIFA and GetUp to name but a few – who instead of going to government to lobby, they march in noisy crowds to cause damage and to pretend they are more representative of the people than they really are.
