To the editor: Morrison can’t change climate

Alicia Payne (CW 24 Feb p10) states that our environment and climate have suffered under the Morrison Government. Now I know Morrison is a religious man, but even someone like him surely can’t change mother nature. Would Ms Payne like to thank the government for the bucket loads of rain that has fallen recently, this must be good for long suffering farmers and our green gardens.

When will politicians like Ms Payne realise that you canโ€™t change the climate because it is a cyclic natural occurring event that has been happening for millions of years. Has she looked into countries overseas that just rely on renewable energy for their electricity? When the need for heat or cooling goes up, these countries suffer blackouts because the grid canโ€™t keep up and they have to plug into other countries that use coal, gas or nuclear because it is instant, reliable and not dependent on the weather.ย

Germany will be regretting their decision to cease coal and nuclear power plants, as they now rely on 60-70 per cent of their electricity to come from Russiaโ€™s gas pipeline that Putin will undoubtably cut in the coming weeks. Maybe they (and we) should take a leaf out of Englandโ€™s book and build a nuclear power plant capable of powering most of the country.
