With many Australians now staying home most of the time, and streaming services proving a popular way to pass time in isolation, you may have realised your couch is no longer cutting it when it comes to comfort.
Shopping online is something most people are very familiar with and a good way to avoid leaving home. But when it comes to larger items, such as a new sofa, what’s the best way to buy online and be happy with the product when it’s delivered? Nicole Absalom, product manager for sofa specialist Plush – Think Sofas, says there are three critical tips to help get it right.
1. Use live chat or call for advice
While online shopping may feel like it’s just you and the device, practical advice while you browse is available if you take advantage of the sales staff in store and online support. Ask as many questions as you can by phone or live chat. They are highly experienced and want you to make the right decision, too.
2. Get cover samples sent to you
It is critical to get a swatch of the cover you like, whether it’s leather or fabric, and view it in the room the sofa will be in. Fabrics and leathers react differently to wall colours and natural light. Talk with the sales support team about the most suitable cover for your sofa based on your household. For example, if you have young children, or pets, fabric may be better than leather. Once you have a shortlist of options, ask for a swatch pack to be sent to you.
3. Planning for comfort
Comfort is influenced by the size, configuration and height of a sofa. Use tape to mark out the shape of your preferred sofa configuration to get a sense of how it will impact the flow of the room. It is just as important to consider if you need high or low back support.
