Master Builders ACT will hold a tradie vaccination day this Saturday open to construction workers across Canberra in support of the government’s focus on increasing vaccination rates as small-scale construction recommences on Friday.
The event will be run as a drive-through clinic with qualified nurses and doctors providing the AstraZeneca vaccine to construction workers while they remain inside their vehicles.
It will be open this Saturday 11 September between 9am and 2pm in the MBA carpark in Fyshwick, and there is a contingency plan to operate longer if the demand is there.
CEO Michael Hopkins said the MBA would love if they were overwhelmed with tradies turning up for the vaccine and it would be a nice problem to have.
“You don’t need to book or even get out of your car, you just need to turn up, bring your Medicare card and you’ll be seen by a doctor and a qualified professional,” he said.
“A lot of workers in the industry are getting the vaccine because they understand the benefits and protection it gives them, and the MBA is keen to do everything we can to get as many construction workers vaccinated as possible.”
Mr Hopkins said they have received lots of questions from members via the phone and social media since announcing the event yesterday afternoon. He said the MBA’s position is to encourage everyone to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
“We’re pleased to see vaccination rates increasing without mandating them and we’ve seen some builders are going further by trying to boost vaccinations on their sites and we support that, which is why Saturday is so important,” he said.
“We want to do everything we can to boost vaccination rates in the industry and if all the time slots get booked, we would love to run another one.”
MBA are hoping to see a large turnout for the event.
