Two men that were arrested on the weekend for stealing cars in separate incidents will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, Monday, 2 November.
The first man, a 49-year-old man from Oaks Estate, was arrested in Braddon about 3.30pm yesterday after police received a report that a black Audi A7 had been stolen at about 2.30pm from Woden by a man armed with a pair of scissors who confronted the vehicle’s owner.
The man has been charged with aggravated robbery using an offensive weapon and drug driving. Police will oppose bail.
Police are seeking footage of the theft of the Audi from Westfield Woden. Anyone with dash cam, phone, or other footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 6664218. Information can be provided anonymously.
The second man, a 29-year-old from Kambah, was arrested at Canberra Airport yesterday afternoon where he was preparing to board a flight.
Police will allege he stole a car belonging to a female acquaintance by stealing the keys from her on the evening of Tuesday, 27 October while she was sleeping.
The man refused to return the vehicle despite the owner making several phone calls to both him and police over the following days.
When the vehicle was recovered on Friday, 30 October, its number plates had been removed and replaced with plates stolen from another vehicle.
The man has been charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent and assault.
