Two new COVID-19 cases in Queanbeyan

Queanbeyan has recorded two new positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday 12 September, the Deputy Premier of NSW John Barilaro announced.

Contact tracing and other investigations are underway as the Southern NSW Local Health District tries to identify the sources of the infections.

Mr Barilaro announced the cases had come through after 8pm last night and will be included in tomorrow’s numbers.

UPDATE: Woolworths Queanbeyan has been listed as a venue of concern on 9 September between 6.40am and 6.55am and 10 September between 6.15am and 7.10am. Anyone who was at the venue at either of those times must get tested and isolate for 14 days no matter the result.

The news comes after one positive COVID-19 case in Karabar yesterday, 11 September.

Elsewhere, thousands of NSW residents across the state’s northeast and southwest enjoyed their second day of freedom in weeks as stay-at-home restrictions lifted on Saturday for regional centres of Coffs Harbour, Wagga Wagga and Albury.

In the NSW LGAs where lockdown has lifted, masks are mandatory at indoor public venues, but hospitality, retail and sporting spots have all been cleared to reopen with restrictions, while rules for indoor and outdoor gatherings have been relaxed with limits.

On Monday, up to five fully vaccinated residents across NSW outside of the Local Government Areas of concern will be allowed to gather outdoors.

NSW Health has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 at the Moruya, Eden, Yass, Young, Gerroa, Port Macquarie, Trangie, Brooklyn, Karuah, Tamworth, Dunbogan, and Dungog sewage treatment plants.

UPDATE: One new case has been recorded in Queanbeyan on Monday, 13 September.
