Two teenage boys charged over alleged stabbing in Civic

Two teenage boys will face the ACT Childrenโ€™s Court this morning after allegedly assaulting and stabbing a man in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At about 2:55am yesterday, 19 January, four boys were stopped on the footpath at the intersection of Cooyong Street and Batman Street in Civic. The victim and his friend approached the intersection shortly after.

At this time, one of the boys is alleged to have ridden an E-scooter into the victim, before the group allegedly grabbed him and began punching him in the head.

As the victim attempted to defend himself, one of the boys is alleged to have stabbed the man in the leg, before the group took off on foot.

Police and emergency services arrived a short time later, and the man was transported to hospital with serious leg and facial injuries.

Yesterday afternoon, police conducted a search warrant at one of the teenager’s residences, where they located two of the boys alleged to be involved in the incident.

A 16-year-old boy, who was subject to bail conditions at the time of the incident, has been charged with joint commission recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.

A 15-year-old boy has also been charged with joint commission recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify the other two boys who were involved in the incident, and police would urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference number 7955746. Information can be provided anonymously.
