UK Youtuber Yung Filly granted bail after facing WA court on rape accusations

A British YouTuber and musician known as Yung Filly has been granted bail after facing court accused of raping and choking a woman in a Perth hotel room.

Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, 29, appeared on Thursday in Perth Magistrates Court.

The 29-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s following a performance on Saturday.

The London rapper, who has 1.8 million YouTube subscribers and millions of Instagram and TikTok followers, is facing a slew of charges.

These include four counts of sexual penetration without consent and three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is also accused of impeding the woman’s breathing or circulation by applying pressure to her neck.

The prosecutor provided photos to the magistrate, which he said went to the question of consent.

In reference to what the photos depicted, the prosecutor said “no ordinary person can consent in those circumstances”.

“Across her body is a history of violent acts, … we say those photos and what is alleged is beyond the pale, beyond what could be considered to be a consensual act.”

Barrientos was taken into custody in Brisbane on Tuesday and extradited to Perth on Wednesday.

Bail was granted with strict conditions, including surrendering his passport, supplying a $100,000 security and reporting to police seven days a week.

Barrientos was also banned from commenting online about the charges or his accuser, or from coming within of 500 metres of two people identified by their initials in the court.

His lawyer Seamus Rafferty SC also requested Magistrate Tanya Watt make an order for his client to be granted access to his mobile phone while in custody so he could transfer his surety to the court.

Prosecutors opposed bail.

Barrientos’s Wikipedia page says he was born in Colombia.

He started his YouTube career in 2013 and music career in 2017.

He has also appeared on numerous television shows, including BBC’s Hot Property, which he hosted in 2018.
