Canberra United will face the newly crowned W-League Premiers Sydney FC in a Semi Final at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Easter Monday 5 April at 3pm.
United booked their first finals appearance in four years with a thrilling nil-all draw against Sydney in their final match to seal fourth spot. The draw should give United confidence of causing an upset and booking a spot in the Grand Final.
The sides met each other twice during the regular season with Sydney taking the first game 4-0 back in February before a much closer nil-all draw on 26 March.
The other Semi Final will see second placed Brisbane Roar FC host the Melbourne Victory at Lions Stadium on Sunday 4 April at 4pm.
APL Commissioner Greg O’Rourke said the 2021 W-League finals series shaped as one of the closest in the competition’s history.
“The Westfield W-League 2020/21 Season has been one of the closest in the history of the competition and we congratulate Sydney FC for becoming this Seasons Premiers,” said O’Rourke
“Throughout the season we have seen some amazing performances from our new generation of young footballers as well as some outstanding achievements from our more experienced players as well.
“The four teams in the Westfield W-League 2021 Finals Series have all taken points off each other during the regular season and as a result there are no clear favourites heading into this weekend.
“With the matches being held over the Easter weekend, this is an ideal opportunity for football fans to get behind their team as they give it all for a place in the Westfield W-League 2021 Grand Final.“
The winner of each Semi Final will then meet in the Westfield W-League 2021 Grand Final which will be held on Sunday 11 April at 4pm with the highest ranked team that qualifies also earning the hosting rights for the match. It means if United beat Sydney, they will travel to either Brisbane or Melbourne for the Grand Final.
All matches of the Westfield W-League 2021 Finals Series, including the Westfield W-League 2021 Grand Final, will be broadcast live on FOX SPORTS, ABC TV, Kayo Sports and the My Football Live App.
