Upgrades begin on ACT netball facilities

The ACT Governmentโ€™s $7.5 million upgrades to the cityโ€™s five district netball facilities begin today, starting with the Solarhub ACT Netball Centre and Arawang Netball Association facility in Stirling.

โ€œIn 2020, the ACT Government committed to upgrading and resurfacing netball courts across our city,โ€ Yvette Berry, ACT Minister for Sport and Recreation, said. โ€œToday, that promise becomes a reality.โ€

Playing surfaces, fencing, drainage and stormwater management will be improved. Work on the South Canberra, Belconnen, and Tuggeranong facilities will begin in 2024.

โ€œNetball is one of the Canberraโ€™s largest sports, with over 12,000 participants,โ€ Ms Berry said. โ€œThe five netball facilities are heavily utilised, and these upgrades will make a real difference to local teams and players.

โ€œThese works are the result of Netball ACTโ€™s ongoing engagement and advocacy on behalf of the local netball community. I want to thank Netball ACT for their support and partnership.โ€

This initiative fulfils a commitment of the Parliamentary Agreement of the 10th Legislative Assembly by the ACT Labor-Greens Government.
