Upgrades begin on ACT netball facilities

The ACT Government’s $7.5 million upgrades to the city’s five district netball facilities begin today, starting with the Solarhub ACT Netball Centre and Arawang Netball Association facility in Stirling.

“In 2020, the ACT Government committed to upgrading and resurfacing netball courts across our city,” Yvette Berry, ACT Minister for Sport and Recreation, said. “Today, that promise becomes a reality.”

Playing surfaces, fencing, drainage and stormwater management will be improved. Work on the South Canberra, Belconnen, and Tuggeranong facilities will begin in 2024.

“Netball is one of the Canberra’s largest sports, with over 12,000 participants,” Ms Berry said. “The five netball facilities are heavily utilised, and these upgrades will make a real difference to local teams and players.

“These works are the result of Netball ACT’s ongoing engagement and advocacy on behalf of the local netball community. I want to thank Netball ACT for their support and partnership.”

This initiative fulfils a commitment of the Parliamentary Agreement of the 10th Legislative Assembly by the ACT Labor-Greens Government.
