Vaccinated Giants AFLW player tests positive to COVID-19

The Giants have confirmed a member of its AFLW program has tested positive to COVID-19 after travelling to Melbourne over the weekend.

The fully vaccinated player conducted a Rapid Antigen Test at home on Monday before attending the club, which indicated a positive result.

The player then immediately undertook a PCR Test, which confirmed the positive case. The player did not attend the club following her return from Melbourne.

Three other players were deemed close contacts after meeting with the player in Melbourne. All three have returned negative tests, however will continue to self-isolate.

All four players will follow NSW Government and AFL health protocols and guidelines.

The Giants have continued to maintain a stringent set of testing protocols, including rapid antigen and PCR testing, for all players and staff accessing the club facility.

Every player and staff member associated with the club’s AFLW and AFL programs are fully vaccinated.

The Giants will continue to support the players with the rest of the AFLW program to continue as usual.
