Vote for 2023 ACT Women of the Year

Nominations are now open for the 2023 ACT Women’s Awards and for inclusion on the ACT Women’s Honour Roll.

The ACT Women’s Awards recognises women, non-binary, and gender diverse people who improve the status and lives of women and girls in the ACT or achieve significant advancements towards gender equality.

Each year, the awards are presented to:

•           the ACT Woman of the Year

•           the ACT Young Woman of the Year and

•           the ACT Senior Woman of the Year.

Temporary residents, refugees, women with disability, transgender women, non-binary people, and gender diverse people are eligible, and nominations are encouraged.

This year’s ACT Woman of the Year is Kelli-Ann Jackson, head of Women’s Adventure ACT, a volunteer-led, community-organised group that treks to keep the outdoors safe and accessible for women and gender-diverse people of all backgrounds.

“The ACT Women’s Awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the great work of women in our community,” Ms Jackson said.

“For me, being recognised as the 2022 ACT Woman of the Year was really special, as it recognised my work as a volunteer and the contributions all volunteers make to our community.

“If you know of a woman in the local community who’s doing great things to help others, I’d recommend you nominate her.”

“We know that women are so often the unsung heroes in our community, quietly working away to improve the lives of others with no expectation of a return or acknowledgement,” Yvette Berry, Minister for Women, said.

“It’s time to step up, say thanks, and give that special person some well-deserved recognition.”

The awards recognise contributions in a wide range of areas such as arts and media, education, volunteering, community advocacy and inclusion, and women’s safety.

All awards finalists will also be added to the ACT Women’s Honour Roll, a compilation of women who have received one of the following awards since ACT self-government began in 1988:

•           ACT Women’s Awards

•           ACT Australian of the Year Awards

•           ACT Citizen of the Year Awards

•           The ACT Honour Walk

•           ACT Scientist of the Year

The Honour Roll is updated annually. This year, young women, girls, and gender diverse people who receive a Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Award will be added to this list.

The ACT Women’s Awards and the ACT Honour Roll ceremony will take place as part of International Women’s Day celebrations in early March 2023.

Nominations can be made through the website. They close on Monday 28 November.
