Wakefield’s Bar & Wine Room does Moulin Rouge

For the next three nights, Thursday 3 March to Saturday 5 March, Wakefield’s Bar & Wine Room in Ainslie is hosting the glitz and glamour of old Paris through both cuisine and cabaret.

The restaurant bar will come alive, transforming into the Moulin Rouge for three nights only. Its intimate setting will be packed with the dazzling excess of the world-famous theatre, offering a French-indulgent three-course menu and show-stopping cabaret performances by none other than ACT’s most famous burlesque performer, Jazida.

In this performance she will expose the heart of a flapper, with the glittering step of a starlet. Head chef Steven Jacomos has created a themed menu featuring French classics; Hors d’oeuvre to share including oysters, choux bun and comte custard, Coquille Saint-Jacques, scallops with garlic butter (and we’re not even at the entrée)!

Canberrans with a taste for the finer things can look forward to house-made gnocchi, and sirloin steak for the main, and drool over caramelised apple tarte tatin and crème brûlée for le desserts.

Since it wouldn’t be Moulin Rouge without liquid spirit, cocktails featured during the evening include the ‘Martinez’ – a classic cocktail that predates the Martini – and Wakefield original ‘Green Thumb’ with Absinthe, St Germain Elderflower, lime, and cucumber.

Wakefield’s Bar & Wine Room sits as the latest addition to Edgar’s Inn, opened in June 2021, above the laidback pub. Moulin Rouge at Wakefield’s Bar & Wine Room runs from 6pm until late. The divine decadence is on offer for $129 per person, including the three-course meal, and a glass of sparkling, wine or beer on arrival.
