Police are reminding the public of the dangers of speeding and drink driving following two recent high range incidents.  

Earlier this week, an 18-year-old p-plate driver lost his licence after being caught speeding in Aranda. About 9.45pm on Wednesday 14 September, police were conducting traffic targeting on Caswell Drive, Aranda when the man was detected travelling 137km/h in the 90 km/h zone.  

The driver was issued a $1841 infringement for travelling more than 45km/h over the posted speed limit and six demerit points. As a P-plate driver (four total demerit points), his licence will be suspended.  

This incident follows a high range drink driving incident last week. About 10.00am on Wednesday 7 September police had cause to stop a vehicle that was driving on the wrong side of the road on Ipswich Street, Fyshwick.

The driver, a 39-year-old man, returned a positive roadside screen for alcohol, and later at Woden Police Station returned a positive breath sample of 0.183 – more than three and a half times the legal limit. 

Following these serious incidents, police are again urging drivers to slow down, obey the road rules – including posted speed limits – drive to the conditions, and not drive under the influence of alcohol, specifically being aware that having a ‘big night’ may still affect them the next morning.
