The ACT Magistrates Court will be busy today following multiple incidents on Sunday 20 December, including a police vehicle rammed by a car in Scullin and an early morning assault in Turner.
About 2.30pm yesterday, 20 December, police received reports a vehicle was driving erratically on Belconnen Way, Weetangera.
A short time later ACT Policing found the vehicle idling in a residential driveway in Scullin.
The patrol officers parked their vehicle across the driveway before approaching the 27-year-old Watson man sitting in the car.
At this point, police allege he reversed down the driveway at speed to avoid the confrontation and smashed into the passenger side of the police vehicle with one officer still inside.
The man was on bail at the time of his arrest and faces eight additional criminal charges, including driving without ever having held a licence.
He was also charged with using registration plates not properly issued for a vehicle, dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop for police, damaging a police vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision, and unlawful possession of stolen property.
An officer attempted to deploy their taser which did not successfully hit its target, the driver.
Police located the vehicle abandoned a short distance from the collision, and the man was found hiding in nearby bushes and subsequently arrested.
Assaults in Turner
Earlier that day, Police arrested a man in Turner after he allegedly assaulted two women.
Police allege the accused approached the women early in the morning, at approximately 5.30am, at a property on Forbes Street.
After the alleged assault he took items belonging to one of the women, and police located and arrested him a short time later.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, robbery, and breach of good behaviour order.
