What’s on around Canberra in July

It’s been a long time between gigs for eager artists and hungry audiences. Now that restrictions are easing and the arts community is re-emerging from isolation, here’s a little taste of what’s on offer in the Canberra region this July. Restrictions still apply, so it’s best to check with venues before arriving on their doorstep.

Belco Arts: Hosts FACE unframed, an open exhibition of portraiture until 16 July at the Belconnen Arts Centre; belcoarts.com.au

CTC @ Home: Canberra Theatre Centre’s streaming service delivers an array of local content direct from their stage including ABC Canberra’s Adam Shirley reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and much more via the Canberra Theatre’s Facebook page.

Craft ACT: Hosts two new exhibitions, Differing Perspectives and You are Doing it Again until 22 July; craftact.org.au

Canberra Potters: Hosts Student | Teacher 2020, an annual exhibition at their Watson gallery, 9 July-1 August; canberrapotters.com.au

Where You Are Festival: A two-month long program of diverse activities at venues across the Canberra region from 10 July-11 September; risecanberra.com

GOST: Gallery of Small Things goes to the Humble House Fyshwick gallery for a special online and physical exhibition titled Small and Humble, 10 July-2 August; humblehouse.com.au/exhibitions

We Love Local Festival: Tallagandra Hill Winery, Gundaroo celebrates coming out of isolation in a series of special events in its new iconic venue from 11 July to 20 September. Some events are already sold out and others are selling fast. Tickets: tallagandrahill.com.au

2020 Alliance Française French Film Festival: will be resuming its 31st season on Bastille Day, 14 July-4 August, at Palace Electric, New Acton; affrenchfilmfestival.org

Wesley Music Centre: Presents a group performance of works by Eugene Ysaÿe and Beethoven at their Forrest location, 22 July 12.40-1.20pm. $10 entry; trybooking.com/BKIHD

The Street: Reopens to go both live and digital at their City West theatre with Baby et Lulu, the  ARIA-nominated faux-French sensations, 25 July 8pm; thestreet.org.au

ANCA Gallery: Are accepting applications to present an exhibition or project in a three-week exhibition slot, 9-27 September, applications close 28 July; anca.net.au

Canberra REP: Is back in lights with Neil Simon’s heart-warming Brighton Beach Memoirs at their Acton theatre, 31 July to 15 August; canberrarep.org.au

AWM: The Holocaust: Survivors and Witnesses is a new permanent display located within the Memorial’s Second World War Galleries; awm.gov.au
