What’s on in Canberra this weekend, 1-3 April

Friday 1 April

Canberra April weekend Dags CYT
Canberra Youth Theatre kick off their 50th season with a revival production of Dags at the Courtyard Studio, 1-9 April. Photo supplied.

December, a new theatre production on climate change featuring Canberran Jake Silvestro fuses acrobatics and illustrations and push the boundaries of Australian circus by tackling the 2019-20 bushfires in a thought-provoking fashion. It will be performed at The Playhouse, Civic, 1-2 April; canberratheatrecentre.com.au

Canberra Youth Theatre kick off their 50th season with a revival production of Dags by Debra Oswald, a show CYT themselves commissioned back in 1984. The ultimate show about the glory of never fitting in, it will be performed 1-9 April at The Courtyard Studio, Civic; canberrayouththeatre.com.au


Saturday 2 April

Geek Markets Canberra are on all day Saturday 2 April, 9am-5pm, with over 80 traders packing out EPIC’s Fitzroy Pavilion selling boardgames, clothing, art, comics and more; free, book via canberrageekmarkets.com.au

Canberra Sinfonia perform a Mozart Concerto Gala, their inaugural all-concerto program, featuring soloists Lucy Macourt (violin), Alison Mountain (flute) and Rowan Phemister (harp).

The Canberra Youth Orchestra and James McCusker Orchestra perform Magic and the Masters, featuring music from Beethoven to modern Australian composers at Albert Hall, Yarralumla, 2 April 5pm; Eventbrite.

Victor Martinez Parada and Pachamama perform a Latin-American inspired concert, Saturday 2 April 7-9pm, at Smith’s Alternative, City West; smithsalternative.com


Sunday 3 April

Canberra Airport Open Day returns. Come to the western side of the airfield and climb aboard a modern aircraft or enjoy thrilling aerial displays from Paul Bennet and the Royal Australian Air Force Roulettes, great local food, live music, and entertainment for all ages.

A free park-and-ride shuttle service will operate every 15 minutes from Russell Hill and the City bus station to accommodate large crowds.
