Canberrans can provide feedback on the design and location of four upgraded playgrounds in Aranda, Ngunnawal, Chisholm, and Gordon.
“We know Canberrans love their local playgrounds, so we’re making these important community hubs even better,” said Chris Steel, ACT Minister for Transport and City Services.
Possible locations for playgrounds for consideration include those on Banambila Street and Jalanga Crescent in Aranda, Alston Street (South) in Chisholm, Point Hut District Park in Gordon and Burramarra Avenue in Ngunnawal.
Playground upgrades already delivered in the last two years include new playgrounds in Narrabundah, Waramanga, Torrens, Higgins, and Richardson – as well as new nature play spaces at Yerrabi Pond in Gungahlin and at the Kambah Adventure Play Space.
Consultation on further play space upgrades in Lyons and Kaleen will be undertaken later in the term.
The ACT Government has recently concluded consultation on a new destination playground for the Inner North, as part of delivering on another election commitment.
The community said that nature play, structures for climbing, and water play were important features for this new community asset. The new playground will be at the green space next to Canberra Technology Park.
The site was chosen for its proximity to the Phillip Avenue light rail stop, the future Garden City Cycle Route, and the Watson shops.
The playground updates are part of what the ACT Government says is Canberra’s biggest suburban infrastructure program. Local shopping centres are already being upgraded.
“These investments support local Canberra jobs and create better public spaces where people can come together in play,” Mr Steel said.
