The Weston Creek Walk-in Centre has reverted to a dedicated COVID-19 testing facility only, due to high demand, ACT Health has advised. The Centre had returned to its usual health service operations last week.
Further walk-in COVID-19 testing clinics are on Garran Oval (entry from Kitchener Street) and West Belconnen (6 Luke Street, Holt). Garran is closed on Friday 25 December; West Belconnen is closed from Friday 25 December, and reopens on Monday 4 January.
Drive-through COVID-19 testing is available at Exhibition Park (EPIC) and at Jenke Circuit, Kambah. Kambah is closed from Friday 25 December, and reopens on Monday 4 January.
The Winnunga Nimmityjah Respiratory Clinic (63 Boolimba Crescent, Narrabundah) provides a culturally appropriate assessment and testing centre for First Nations people and existing clients. The clinic will be closed on Friday 25 and Monday 28 December, and Friday 1 January. It will be open 9am to 1pm from Tuesday 29 December to Thursday 31 January. Normal operating hours will resume on Monday 4 December.
Demand for COVID testing is high due to the increase in cases and evidence of community transmission in the Sydney Northern Beaches outbreak. There are now 93 confirmed cases linked to the Northern Beaches, as reported by NSW Health this morning.
ACT Health put in place a new Public Health Direction on Friday, which declared the Northern Beaches Local Government Area a COVID-19 affected area. Under the Direction, anyone in the ACT who has been in the Northern Beaches from Friday 11 December is legally required to self-quarantine for 14 days from the date they were last there.
ACT residents are recommended not to travel to NSW these holidays. ACT residents travelling through Greater Sydney, Central Coast or Wollongong on the way to the ACT will be able to do so without quarantining if they have transited through Sydney Airport only, or if they drive through the hotspot by road without stopping.
Weston Creek Walk-in Centre, which just celebrated its first birthday, has been a key testing site throughout the pandemic. There have been more than 29,000 presentations to the Centre in its first 12 months.
Walk-in Centres are free and open daily from 7.30am to 10pm, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. They are best for non-life threatening illnesses and injuries such as colds and flu, cuts and sprains, fractures and infections.
Children under two years and people with complex conditions should see their GP.
