Australian World Orchestra returns to Canberra with the premiere of a major new Australian work
The Australian World Orchestra brings together Australiaโs finest classical musicians from across Australia and the world, to present exquisite performances. Symphony, a new commissioned work by acclaimed Australian composer Paul Dean as the centrepiece of this unmissable concert taking place at Llewellyn Hall on Wed 2 June at 730pm.
Under the baton of AWO Artistic Director and internationally acclaimed conductor Alexander Briger, fifty-two AWO players (forty-eight from across Australia and four from overseas) will come together to celebrate the joy of performing great works of music together and the resilience of Australian music making. The 2021 season will be the first iteration of AWO for over eighteen months and the celebration of its tenth anniversary.
Also on the program is Schumannโs 2nd Symphony โ one of the greatest expressive, and deeply emotional works of the romantic era โ arguably Schumannโs greatest symphonic work, and Beethovenโs dramatic and sensitive Coriolan Overture, to be performed in the year following the great composerโs 250th birthday.
Audacious, exhilarating and with limitless vision, the Australian World Orchestra (AWO) is recognised as one of the most exciting initiatives in Australiaโs cultural history. Founded in 2010 by Artistic Director Alexander Briger AO, AWOโs mission is to bring together Australiaโs finest classical musicians โ from ensembles at home as well as all around the world โ to create something uniquely electrifying.
