Witnesses sought to assaults in City and Gordon, one man charged

A 20-year-old man has been charged over two related assaults in the City and Gordon last month but ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and information to identify the other alleged offenders involved.

ACT Policing said the two separate, but related, incidents occurred early on the morning of Saturday 10 December 2022 where a man was the victim of an alleged coward punch in Canberra City, and a teenage girl received broken facial bones in Gordon. 

In the first incident, two men were walking past the Fifth Avenue bar on Northbourne Avenue about 2.40am when they were allegedly assaulted by people unknown to them. During the assault, one of the men was knocked unconscious and required hospital treatment for his injuries. 

The second incident occurred after 3.40am in Jim Pike Avenue, Gordon when four people entered a residence. At some time between 3.40am and 4.30am, a teenage girl’s nose and jaw were broken inside the house.   

The four people left the house about 4.30am, when one of the four allegedly stole a grey Ford Ranger utility from the front of the premises. 

Court proceedings have commenced against a 20-year-old man who was arrested on Friday 13 January. He has faced court charged with offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, taking a motor vehicle without consent. 

Police are seeking witnesses and information to identify the other alleged offenders in these incidents.
