ACT police arrest woman after drug paraphernalia, stolen IDs, foreign cash found in stolen vehicle

ACT Policing officers have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly breaking into a Volkswagen Tiguan, stealing a Hyundai IX35, stealing personal items, committing credit card fraud and possessing drug paraphernalia.

At about 12:30am on Sunday 24 July, police received reports that a Volkswagen had been broken into earlier that morning with a handbag containing keys, ID and credit cards being stolen with numerous transactions withdrawn from the attached bank account.

Following this, on Monday 1 August, police received reports that a Hyundai IX35 had been stolen from a residence in Oxley the evening prior.

On Tuesday 9 August, police observed the stolen IX35 allegedly fitted with stolen plates parked in Monash before apprehending the driver sitting inside the vehicle.

Officers found several items in her possession, including:

  • a Tupperware container believed to be containing Methylamphetamine
  • a container believed to be containing Gamma-hydroxybutyrate
  • clip seal bags
  • two scales
  • nearly $5,000 in Australian currency
  • Chinese currency
  • Malaysian currency
  • Israeli currency
  • Indonesian currency
  • Indian currency
  • two mobile telephones
  • two black sunglasses cases containing drug paraphernalia
  • Licences, Medicare cards, Working with Vulnerable People cards, private health cards, and credit cards belonging to 6 different individuals.

The woman has been charged with ride/drive a motor vehicle without consent and unlawful possession of stolen property.

The arrest of this woman was coordinated by a newly established ACT Policing taskforce targeting high-risk driving behaviours and stolen vehicles which are often used in the carriage of other crimes such as burglaries and assaults.

The woman had received bail from the ACT Magistrates Court at the end of July for unrelated offences.

More charges are expected to be laid in the coming days, and police will seek to have her bail opposed in court.
