Woman charged over Franklin burglary using stolen vehicle

A 30-year-old woman will face court today after allegedly using a stolen vehicle to commit a burglary on a business in Franklin.

About 2am on Tuesday 17 September, police allege the woman, a man, and a second woman drove a white Kia SUV, which had been reported stolen, to the Franklin shops on Clare Burton Close.

The man allegedly forced entry to a tobacconist using a crowbar before all three entered the store and stole cigarettes.

About 9:30am on 19 September, police conducting patrols in Narrabundah observed the white Kia being driven by the man. Officers directed the driver to stop, but he failed to comply with police directions and drove away.

A short time later police found the vehicle alight on Parkes Way.

Following enquiries and analysis of CCTV from the business, police spoke to the woman and conducted a search of her residence in Narrabundah.

Officers located clothes that matched the CCTV footage and other items believed to be stolen property from a separate reported burglary.

The woman was arrested and charged with intent to commit theft in joint commission, joint commission of theft, riding in a motor vehicle without consent, unlawful possession of stolen property and breach of good behaviour order.

The woman is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 25 September.
