Woman charged with 23 counts of child care fraud

A 46-year-old Campbell woman has been charged with 23 fraud offences relating to a Weston child care centre following ACT Policing executing a search warrant this morning, Friday 26 February.

Police executed a search warrant at a residence in Campbell in relation to an ongoing investigation into fraudulent activity at a child care facility in Weston.

The 46-year-old woman was arrested and charged with 23 counts of obtaining property by deception to the value of more than $160,000.

Further investigations are ongoing into the misappropriation of funds which is suspected to be in excess of $480,000. Police expect to lay additional charges in the coming weeks and do not believe any other people were involved in this activity.

At no time was the care of the children compromised as a result of this woman’s alleged actions. Police are liaising with Australian Government regulators to assist the child care centre to continue operating.

She is expected to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court this afternoon.
