Woman drowns at beach near Kiama

A 66-year-old woman has died after being found unresponsive in the water at beach near Kiama on the NSW South Coast.

About 9:10am today, 21 December, emergency services were called to an unpatrolled part of Werri Beach, Gerringong, after a woman was pulled unconscious from the surf.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District arrived to find members of the public and local surf club conducting CPR before NSW Ambulance paramedics took over.

The woman was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
