Woman rescued from Kambah Pool floodwaters

ACT Fire and Rescue have assisted ACT Policing in a swift water rescue of a woman at Kambah Pool late last night, Tuesday 23 March.

Firefighters used throw bags and ropes to safely retrieve the woman from the water and ACT State Emergency Service personnel were on the scene to support.

Following the rescue, the woman was assessed and treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service Paramedics. They have said she did not suffer any major injuries and was not transported to hospital.

The woman is one of the three people that have been rescued from waterways in the past 24 hours.

Over the course of yesterday the ACT State Emergency Services Agency (ACTSES) received approximately 185 calls for assistance because of the wet weather. 165 of the requests have been completed, with ACTSES crews out this morning, 24 March, completing the remaining 20 jobs.

The most common requests for assistance have regarded leaking roofs, fallen trees and flooded roads across Canberra.

ACTSES urges the community to stay clear of flood waters as rivers, creeks and storm water drains are still fast moving and full of debris.

The community is also asked to be aware of the danger that trees may pose after soil erosion from extensive rain as it is very common for trees to fall following downfalls of rain.

ACTSES has also received several reports of disaster tourism as people visit flooded locations. The community is urged to avoid going to flood affected areas and to keep road clear as emergency services are still busy working in flood and rain affected areas.

For assistance in a storm or flood call the ACTSES on 132 500.
