Canberrans will be able to cheer on the Matildas at indoor watch parties during this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.
The ACT Government has partnered with the University of Canberra (UC) to host the live events on campus at the UC Refectory.
It will allow the Canberra community to come together to watch the Matildas on the big screen as they go head to head with Ireland on Thursday 20 July and a week later with Nigeria on 27 July.
As one of Australia’s leading universities for sport education, and home to elite athletes, professional sporting teams and renowned sport science research, UC will provide a great atmosphere for the local community to get behind the Matildas.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry said, “The FIFA Women’s World Cup will shine a spotlight on women’s sport. The UC Watch Parties will give Canberra’s football fans the opportunity to come together to celebrate and get behind our magnificent Matildas.
“The ACT Government will also set up a live site in Garema Place for any games featuring the Matildas during the elimination rounds.”
The ACT Government is also proud to support the PLAY ON! Exhibition, celebrating the history of women’s football, to be held in the UC Refectory from 11 July to 31 August 2023 to coincide with the Women’s World Cup.
