$99 adult cat adoptions at RSPCA ACT

Four-year-old cat Wallace has been at the RSPCA for more than 100 days and is hoping to find his purrfect, forever home before Christmas.

RSPCA ACT is making adult cats, Wallace included, available for adoption for $99 in the lead up to Christmas to make room in the cattery, which is currently at capacity with more than 200 furry felines in the organisation’s care.

RSPCA ACT is looking to find forever homes for a number of cats to make room for the more than 30 on the waiting list for rehoming.

“Our cattery is full of beautiful adult cats desperate to find their forever homes,” said RSPCA ACT CEO Michelle Robertson.

“We’ve had a number of cats in care for a long period of time and we want to find them their perfect match just in time for Christmas.”

Cory, who arrived at the shelter as a stray, is also available for adoption from RSPCA ACT.

Ms Robertson says some of the adult cats in the shelter have ‘cat flu’ and would really benefit from leaving the shelter environment for a loving home.

“As our cattery exceeds capacity, we see an increase in the likelihood of [the] spread of illness and disease,” she says.

“This means not only will animals stay longer to recover, but a greater stretch on our resources here at the shelter.”

RSPCA ACT hopes the reduced adoption fee will see people who have been thinking about adopting a cat for some time make the commitment. However, prospective pet parents are encouraged to consider the long-term commitment that is pet ownership and take into account the ongoing costs such as food, litter, enrichment and veterinary needs.

Every cat available for adoption is desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and health-checked before heading to its new home. The $99 adoptions will run until 23 December.

To see the cats available for adoption, visit the RSPCA website or contact the shelter on 6287 8100 to make an appointment.
