Canberra Daily’s 2022 in review: December

The final month of the year brought us both joy and tragedy, starting with the death of a teenage girl from meningococcal after attending a music festival here in Canberra. Potential investors were given the heads up on which suburbs will be hot in the coming year.

The festive season brought great light displays, with CW receiving the inside scoop on where to find them. And CW publisher Nick Samaras caught up with the man leading the territory, Chief Minister Andrew Barr.

The nation was shocked when an organised ambush saw two police officers and a civilian killed in cold blood in Queensland.


Teenage girl dies of meningococcal after attending Spilt Milk in Canberra

Tragedy struck after a meningococcal outbreak at the Spilt Milk music festival. An 18-year-old girl from the NSW South Coast girl contracted the disease and died at Canberra Hospital. NSW and ACT Health authorities urged festival goers to be cautious of symptoms as the disease can turn deadly in a matter of hours.

Canberra got into the festive spirit with many houses around the territory setting up intricate and exciting light displays. Queensland shooters linked to conspiracy forums

The deadly ambush that killed two Queensland police officers and a neighbour stopped the country in its tracks. The three killers – a former school principal, his brother, and his sister-in-law were all killed during the shootout. It was soon revealed that the trio had been living off-grid and had links to online fringe conspiracy groups, referencing anti-vaccine sentiment and claiming high profile shootings were staged.
