TikTok banned on ACT government-issued devices

The ACT Government has banned the installation of TikTok on ACT Government-issued devices due to security concerns with the social media app.

The decision comes a day after the federal government banned the app on Australian government-issued devices because of national security risks.

A Security and Emergency Management Cabinet meeting was held today and following consideration of the matter, the Territory Government recognised the benefit of national consistency in matters related to cybersecurity and the protection of Government data.

The ban will take effect immediately, following a message that was sent to all ACTPS employees this afternoon.

At this point in time, the ban will not extend to the installation of TikTok on the personal devices of employees who also use these devices as part of their work with ACT Government.

ACTPS staff will receive information and support on how to remove TikTok from any government issued devices, and policies will be updated to reflect the ban.

Staff will also continue to receive education on appropriate use of personal devices within the workplace.
