The ACT Government has released new designs for playground upgrades in Ngunnawal, Chisholm, Gordon, and Aranda.
“Across the suburbs, Canberrans told us they wanted to see more nature play opportunities and diverse play elements,” Chris Steel, ACT Minister for Transport and City Services said.
“This feedback aligns with the ACT Play Space Strategy, which highlights the need to deliver equitable and sustainable playgrounds.
“Increasingly, we are hearing from the community about their desire to spend more active time outside with their families. The final designs provide these opportunities, as well as functional amenities set across the many backdrops of our city.”
Burrumarra Avenue playground, Ngunnawal, will have new climbing structures, slides, and accessible play equipment.
Banambila Street playground, Aranda, will have a fitness station for all ages; a junior fort; and a central nature play area.
The Alston Street playground, Chisholm, will have a new basketball hoop and refurbished backboard; a new nature play area that includes climbing and accessible equipment; and a nest swing.
The Point Hut Pond playground, Gordon, will have a new nature play area with boulders; scramble nets and balance elements.
All four sites will include Ngunnawal cultural artwork and themes.
Upgrades will begin before the end of the year.
“Playgrounds should provide people of different ages and abilities with engaging and fun experiences that support physical health and wellbeing,” Mr Steel said.
“That’s why we’re continuing to roll out upgraded playgrounds with different features right across Canberra.”
The Government is also designing the new destination playground in the Inner North. Preliminary designs will be prepared for further engagement with the community in the second half of this year.
Procurement is also underway to construct the new Casey community park.
