Body found in Curtin confirmed to be missing man Shane Watson

ACT Policing has today confirmed the deceased man found in Curtin late last week is missing 33-year-old Shane Watson.

Mr Watson’s body was discovered by a bushwalker about 10.25am on Friday 28 April near the Tuggeranong Parkway adjacent to Cotter Road intersection.

Police are investigating the circumstances of his death and how he came to be where his body was found.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage between 26 March and 2 April 2023 from:

  • Vehicles in the suburbs of Lyons and Curtin;
  • Vehicles travelling southbound on the Tuggeranong Parkway between Cotter Road and Hindmarsh Drive.

Police would also like to speak to anyone who may have had contact with Mr Watson during this same period who have not yet contacted police.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 7405873. Information can be provided anonymously.

Police stated last week that they have not ruled out foul play as a cause of death and it is believed that the body had been in the location for some time.

Mr Watson was first reported missing on 16 April and police issued an urgent plea for assistance to find him on 18 April.

Police attended his home in Bonython on Sunday 16 April, and it was clear the residence had been left without any planning.

ACT Policing Detective Superintendent Paul O’Meagher said last week the investigation into his death will continue.

“Examination of the scene is ongoing — it will include a physical search of the area, we’re obviously trying to find items of relevance to the investigation,” O’Meagher said.

“At this point in time the cause of death is not known, our examination of the scene in combination with the post-mortem will hopefully identify and confirm a cause of death.
