New sculpture for Googong

The main entrance to Googong is now home to a seven-metre-tall sculpture, designed as a “nod to Googong’s local ecology and geology”.

Googong Project Director, Malcolm Leslie, says the sculpture is an “iconic and visual landmark” and will welcome residents and visitors to the township.

“The sculpture marks the main entrance to Googong and has been designed to acknowledge the foundations of the natural environment and embrace the ‘essence of the Monaro’ unique to the area,” he says.

The sculpture incorporates rusted steel blades to mirror the shape of surface rock strikes and large arches to acknowledge the Monaro Ranges and the patination of the Golden Sun Moth.
