Barbie the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros history

Barbie, the Greta Gerwig film inspired by the famous Mattel doll, has become the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros history, surpassing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, according to the Box Mojo Office page.

It has so far grossed $US1.34 billion ($A2.08 billion) at the box office. The title of the most lucrative film from the studios had been held by the Potter film starring Daniel Radcliffe, which grossed $US1.34 billion ($A2.08 billion) during 25 weeks in 2011.

It is expected that for Wednesday or Thursday of this week Barbie will become the 13th film ever to exceed the $US600 million ($A933 million) collection in the United States.

The film – starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken – has broken other records before, such as the most lucrative film directed solely by a woman in history.

Last week, Barbie surpassed Super Mario Bros The Movie at the domestic box office to become the highest-grossing title of 2023 in North America.

It is also expected to become the highest-grossing film of the year worldwide and for this it would have to exceed the $US1.36 billion ($A2.12 billion) dollars made by the film based on the Nintendo character.

The last step for the film to be crowned as the most lucrative of all time directed by a woman, would be to surpass the $US1.43 billion ($A2.22 billion) that Frozen II, the film directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck.
