Three businesses have received funding through the ACT Government’s Business Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Grants program, which gives local businesses grants of $20,000 to incorporate ZEVs into their vehicle fleets.
Goodwin Aged Care Services purchased two 12-seat electric minibuses to replace old internal combustion engine vehicles. The two Joylong EA6 minibuses will be used every day to help seniors socialise, exercise, and stay active.
“We’re grateful to the ACT Government’s Business Zero Emissions Vehicle Grants program for the opportunity to incorporate additional ZEVs into our fleet,” executive manager Erik Boddeus said.
“The two ZEV buses this grant has contributed to will be assisting seniors throughout Canberra and the surrounding regions to attend Goodwin Day Clubs, providing social and healthy-ageing activities to seniors in our community.”
SEE Change bought a Peugeot e-Expert van to support activities for their office such as delivering electric bikes and merchandise to events.
Wokitup! bought a Ford e-Transit that they will use to deliver supplies across their stores in the Territory.
“I am delighted to see Goodwin Aged Care Services, SEE Change, and WokItUp jumping on board and embracing this technology,” Shane Rattenbury, Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction, said. “They are helping to demonstrate to the rest of the community what is possible.
“It is great to see these businesses have chosen to make their next choice electric and contribute to helping our city take another step towards reaching our goal to electrify.”
Mr Rattenbury encouraged Canberrans interested in buying electric vehicles to find out about financial support.
“The ACT Government is providing incentives to help with the uptake of this new technology, including zero interest loans for eligible households through the Sustainable Household Scheme, and free stamp duty on new and used electric vehicle purchases in the ACT,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“In Australia, we are seeing a significant increase in the type and range of electric vehicles that are available. With more vans and buses coming on the market, this grants program encourages businesses and community organisations to consider the benefits of transitioning from an old petrol or diesel fleet to a ZEV.
“There are ongoing savings to be made by transitioning fleet cars to ZEVs, thanks to reduced maintenance and cheaper refuelling, with the added benefit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“Business vehicles generally do a lot more miles than a regular family vehicle, so the savings are even greater in a commercial context.”
