Man dies after disturbance at Kokomo’s bar in Civic

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a death that occurred after a disturbance at Kokomo’s bar, a licensed premises in Civic, early this morning, Sunday 19 July.

According to ABC News, their sources have confirmed the man was Comancheros Canberra bikie gang commander Pitasoni Ulavalu, 48.

Police responded to the incident about 12.05am. ACT Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the scene where they attended to two injured men. 

One of the men died a short time later at the scene. The other was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics and taken to hospital.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident continued overnight. Police remained at the scene this morning.

Anyone who may have any information, footage of the incident, or dash-cam footage from the area at and around Kokomo’s bar, on the corner of Genge and Bunda streets in the City, that could assist police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

This is the second fatality at licensed premises in the ACT this month. Two weeks ago, on Sunday 5 July, 44-year-old Warren Hordpenko, from Dalmeny NSW, died at the Kingston Hotel following an altercation in the hotel’s poolroom. A 35-year-old Canberra man, Kerry Kourpanidis, was charged with the murder of Mr Hordpenko after being arrested by police on Thursday 9 July.
