Goulburn museum wins travellers’ choice award

Goulburn’s Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum has received a Tripadvisor 2020 Travellers’ Choice Award, ranking it in the top 10% of tourist attractions worldwide according to Tripadvisor.

Every year, experience review website Tripadvisor pulls together customer reviews and ratings from travellers across the globe to shine a spotlight on the very best tourism operators.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s museums coordinator, Kerry Ross, along with the team of staff and volunteers who help manage the iconic memorial site, are thrilled to receive this award.

“We thank all those who took the time to leave a review of their visit. We manage a unique site that includes a substantial war memorial tower and two museum buildings filled with a diverse and wide-ranging collection of war related objects, photographs and documents.

“This year we opened a new state-of-the-art museum and we look forward to increasing return visitations with the launch of a new exhibition each year, along with upcoming speaking events and other public programming”, said Mrs Ross.

Situated high on a rocky outcrop, the site also offers a spectacular view of the City of Goulburn and has always been a popular destination for visitors to the area, along with local bike riders, walkers and runners.

The current exhibition – ‘Objects of National Significance: When war trophies came to Goulburn’ – tells the story of World War 1 trophies that came to Goulburn in 1920, 1922 and 1927 and their role in the origins of the Rocky Hill site.

Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm, as well as all school and public holidays.
