Open for business: East Row Specialty Coffee

Canberra has been spoilt for choice with new venues popping up across the city just in time for summer. East Row Specialty Coffee is the latest offering to grace the Territory, opening yesterday, Tuesday 2 November, in the Sydney Building in the City.

Owners Michelle Xue and Yokas Wu say they want to bring the locals back to the heart of the City, with a menu of sophisticated and classic breakfast and lunch options.

“It’s really hard to find a quality daytime food and coffee offering in this part of the city. Normally locals head over to districts like Braddon for the best café experiences,” Michelle says.

“Our aim is to bring that offering back to the original centre of Canberra and serve up delicious food and great coffee from a fully refurbished venue that’s a pleasure to be in.”

The fit out has been designed to celebrate the history of the iconic Sydney building, highlighting the arched windows and celebrating natural finishes.

The space, the former home of London Burgers and Beer, boasts high ceilings, arched windows and a mixture of concrete, exposed brick and timber making it a bright and relaxing space to dine on head chef Yokas’ menu, where each dish is “designed to be an experience”.

“Every meal has something special about it. Something that will wow the customers from the moment it’s been served to their last bite,” Yokas says.

Coffees will be served up by award-winning latte artist Brian Zhang, with beans from Canberra’s ONA Coffee.

Head chef and co-owner Yokas Wu says his menu is “designed to be an experience” from the moment dishes are served to the very last bite.

“It was so important that as a speciality coffeehouse we opted for the best bean and we truly believe that’s ONA Coffee,” says Yokas.

“Their techniques are ground-breaking, their training is world class, and you can guarantee an ONA Coffee’s quality time and time again. It’s a bonus that they’re local too.”

You can find East Row Specialty Coffee at the corner of East Row and London Circuit in the City, open Monday to Saturday 7am-4pm.
