ACT Policing is asking for public assistance to identify a man seen in CCTV footage outside the RSPCA ACT cat boarding house in Weston in the early hours of Saturday 17 April.
Police allege the man who “appears to have a mullet hair style and walks unsteadily” may have been involved in an incident around 2.40am at the facility on Kirkpatrick Street.
On the day of the alleged incident, RSPCA ACT CEO Michelle Robertson posted publicly “with a pleading heart”, calling for help from the community following a break in where she alleged “someone violently smashed, shattered and forced their way into” the boarding facility.
“When our team arrived, much to our distress, we found two beautiful cats missing,” she wrote.
“I am calling on our supporters and friends to please share this post and the photos of Beau and Luna, with the hope that they would be found and that we can reunite them with their family.”
No other animals in the care of the shelter or boarding facility were unaccounted for.
The missing cats were adopted from RSPCA ACT and their owners regularly booked them into Tango’s cattery while on holiday.
“Needless to say, the family is shocked and deeply saddened,” Ms Robertson wrote.
“Our hearts are breaking with them.”
Both cats were microchipped and desexed, and Ms Robertson asked vets and rescue groups to keep their eyes peeled.
