Is the fantastic suburb of Forde Canberra’s greenest region?

The popular Gungahlin suburb is home to approximately 5,000 residents and a massive 30 per cent of the area is devoted to green space, according to McGrath Canberra Real Estate Agent, Justin Taylor.

Having sold approximately 75 properties across the suburb, Mr Taylor is an expert in all things Forde and said he absolutely loves the area.

“My favourite thing about Forde is just the beauty of the suburb, but also every house has to have three different building materials on the façade, which makes for a nicer aesthetic for the homes – they’re just nicer looking,” Mr Taylor said.

“The combo of brick, Colorbond, and weatherboard makes for a more aesthetically pleasing streetscape.”

The ‘greenest suburb’ has a very particular layout, which is where it gets its unofficial name from, Mr Taylor explains.

“Out of the 2,100 homes, every house is within 200m of a landscape, park, wetland or nature reserve, and the suburb is bordered by Mulligans Flat,” he said.

“There’s 11 main parks and 39 hectares of wetlands and nature reserves, which is just a huge amount of nature.”

Arguably the most popular suburb in Gungahlin, Mr Taylor said there are great amenities, local shops and eateries, a hair and beauty salon, and Burgmann Anglican School Forde campus which caters for junior and middle school students.

In the suburb, 80 per cent of the properties are houses, and only two per cent are apartments.

“Everyone that I’ve sold to in Forde and asked them about how they find the suburb, they all say they love it!”
