A new Emergency Services Station in the Molonglo Valley will bring ambulance and fire and rescue services closer to residents, the ACT Government states.
The project will be funded in the 2023-24 ACT Budget. The proposed station will be completed in 2025-26.
Molonglo is the fastest growing district in the ACT: the district population is estimated to double between 2017 and 2028.
In recognition of the increased demand this expected growth will have on emergency response times, the Government last year funded the forward planning and preliminary design for a new ACT Ambulance Service (ACTAS) and ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R) joint station for the Molonglo and associated districts.
This year, $65.9 million of funding will be used to construct a modern facility to support first responders in their service to the community, and which can expand to support emergency response times, address accommodation needs, and serve the future growth of the Molonglo Valley and surrounding region.
“As one of the fastest growing areas in the ACT, residents in the Molonglo Valley region will have more access to Fire and Ambulance services with the new emergency services station located in the area,” Chief Minister Andrew Barr said. “These additional services will also improve community safety through a higher level of emergency services available across the ACT.”
“The construction of the joint ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire and Rescue station will provide an enhanced capability to respond to emergency incidents,” said Mick Gentleman, ACT Minister for Police and Emergency Services. “This modern facility will also support our highly valued first responders in their service to the ACT community.”
