ACT Parkinson’s community opens office in Deakin

The Parkinson’s community in Canberra now has a home away from home with the official opening of its first ever office in Deakin this week, on Tuesday 14 March.

Senator David Pocock cut the ribbon at 5pm, as The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Parkinson’s (formerly Parkinson’s ACT) proudly opened its doors at 32 Thesiger Court, Deakin.

In 2022, Parkinson’s ACT merged into The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Parkinson’s “to maximise support for people living with the disease and their families”.

Ms Olivia Nassaris, Executive Director of The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Parkinson’s, said the new office would be a welcoming base for people living with Parkinson’s to receive support, attend group activities, and improve their wellbeing.

“We thank the committed volunteers and the volunteer Board of Parkinson’s ACT, who directed and aided the growth of the organisation,” she said.

“One of the first items on the wish list was an office space to hold support groups, exercise activities and education seminars – all of which are vital to living well with Parkinson’s.

“The opening of this office is a community base, a place where people feel welcome and supported, and is an investment in people’s wellbeing.

“It is a home, a clubhouse, a counselling centre, a café – whatever it needs to be for those living with Parkinson’s, their carers, and their families.”
