ACT public school enrolments open for 2024

ACT public school enrolments from preschool to year 12 open today for the 2024 school year.

This includes the new high school in East Gungahlin, open to residents of Kenny, Throsby, and areas of Lyneham.

Due to a one-way shared priority enrolment area (PEA), residents of Harrison, Franklin, Gungahlin, Mitchell, Watson, and Downer, and parts of Ngunnawal and Forde may enrol in their existing PEA high schools or the new high school in East Gungahlin.

“Enrolling in a new school is an important milestone in every child’s life, and being among the first students in a brand-new school community while it is being established is a particularly exciting opportunity,” education minister Yvette Berry said.

Parents who apply by 2 June will get an offer from 24 July.

“Every ACT public school is a great school, and there’s a guaranteed place for every child in their local school from kindergarten to year 12 to learn, grow, and reach their potential,” Ms Berry said.

Parents and carers can visit the Education Directorate website for more information and learn more about what their local public school offers by viewing their school website. Some schools will hold information sessions soon.

“The ACT Government is committed to building, expanding, and upgrading public schools across Canberra” Ms Berry said. “Upgrades are improving facilities and supporting the delivery of inclusive and equitable education. Works also include new learning spaces and wet areas, bike sheds, outdoor shade areas, and improvements to playgrounds.”

All four-year-olds in Canberra are guaranteed 15 hours of preschool a week in the ACT. If your child turns four on or before 30 April 2024, they are eligible for preschool next year.
